Guide of Industrial Tourism in Kansai “Kansai Technical Visit Guide”

Technical visits have been popular, not only as an educational activity for children and students but also as an activity for grown-ups including businesspeople and residents’ groups. The Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI-KANSAI) has been promoting “industrial tourism”, utilizing industrial resources such as the industrial technologies, history, and products of the Kansai region (Fukui, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, and Wakayama) to attract tourists from other parts of Japan and the world, with the aim of further promoting internationalization and economic development of the region.

The website “Kansai Technical Visit Guide” managed by the Bureau introduces basic information on about 500 industry-related facilities (factories, company museums, showrooms, etc.) that receive visitors and allow them the opportunity to learn, observe and/or experience manufacturing first hand. The guide is widely utilized as a tool for industrial tourism, the total number of visitors to the facilities compiled in this guide being more than 16 million a year. The Bureau aims to develop exchanges with more industries and companies and enhance the content of the website.
