Winter Illumination Event in Kobe

[Kobe Luminarie; The Art of Lights]
Kobe Luminarie, the annual festival of illumination in Kobe, first staged in Dec. 1995, when the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake hit the southern Hyogo Prefecture, to wish the repose of the souls of the victims and express hopes for the city’s restoration and renaissance. The event has been held every winter since then and this year marks the 19th year. In old foreign settlement area and Higashi-Yuenchi Park, wooden arch-like structures of varied designs will be decorated with colorful lights, creating 3-dimensional artistic atmosphere.
