“Nara Ootateyama Matsuri” will be held.

There is a custom of “making artificial objects as a scapegoat to dispel bad luck” in various places in Nara Prefecture since the Edo era, which has been called “Tateyama.”
Nara Ootateyama Matsuri started in 2016 based on this custom.
Huge brightly-lit festival floats called “Ootateyama” made from the motif of the Four Heavenly Kings and traditional events in the areas of Nara Prefecture get together at the Heijo Palace site. This is a new seasonal event in winter, which is to pray for perfect health, at the very beginning of the year in Nara.
During the festival, in addition to a children’s zone, “Attakamon Grand Prix,” where you can enjoy hot meals from 39 communities in Nara Prefecture, will be held. This is a special occasion when local meals and products gather together. Please compare each local taste there.
You can also enjoy Wakakusayama-yaki and fireworks from the venue at night on Saturday, January 27th.
