Kyoto Native Flower Exhibition 2017 Spring

We used to be able to see Kyoto’s native flowers in our neighborhood. The Kyoto Native Flower Exhibition 2017 is an exhibition that features rare spring flowers in one place for all to enjoy. This exhibition is a gathering of wild flowering plants that color the mountains and fields in spring, as well as rare native plants that are quickly disappearing due to environmental change.
At the Umekoji Park Suzaku Garden, many Japanese flowers which bloom in the spring have been carefully cultivated for this event and will be exhibited. Also, there will be an area featuring rare native flowering plants and those facing extinction in Kyoto Prefecture, this area will also include himeshaga fringed irises (Iris gracilipes), kazaguruma (Clematis patens), and yamabukisou (Chelidonium japonicum).
Additionally, directly next to the exhibition is the biotope “Inochi no Mori” Life Forest. Here kurinsou, a plant that grows near water, will be approaching full bloom. Every year it flowers coloring the forest with dark pink blooms.
*Inochi no Mori can be entered from Suzaku no Niwa (Kyoto Native Flower Exhibition) by crossing the Furin (Maple Grove) Bridge.
During the exhibition period, there will be many other fun things to enjoy, including a garden tour by horticulturalists full of knowledge on wild grasses and flowers, an exhibition planned on Chinese and Japanese medicine, a place to buy to buy Japanese plants, and much more.
