Cancer treatment without resection - Fukui Prefectural Hospital Proton Therapy Center

Fukui Prefectural Hospital Proton Therapy Center was established in March 2011 as the first facility for proton cancer treatment in the Japan Sea coast area. Proton therapy is a type of radiation therapy. Proton beams are irradiated to more closely focus on a cancer lesion than X-rays, and distribution of the radiation dose can be adjusted to match the depth and shape of each cancer lesion.

Proton therapy is applied for head and neck cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, prostate cancer and metastatic cancers, as well as esophagus cancer, pancreas cancer and others.

Fukui Prefectural Hospital Proton Therapy Center is located 5-minutes’ drive from JR Fukui Station, with convenient access from the Kansai region. Treatment time for one fraction is about 20 to 30 minutes, so patients can receive Proton Therapy on an outpatient basis while continuing their daily life.
