The 3rd Joto Ward Sarugaku Festival―Gather 'round everyone!

From the Nanboku-cho Period to Muromachi Period, Enami Sarugaku, a troupe of sarugaku (a type of Japanese traditional performing art), was formed at Enamino-sho located in what is today the northern area of Joto Ward, Osaka City, and played an active role. Sarugaku provided the original form for the present-day noh and kyogen, and was a performing art loved by the common people for its acrobatics, singing & dancing, and mimicking elements. In line with its history, this festival will be held as a festival of modern performing art culture that incorporates a wide variety of songs and dances which everyone can participate in and enjoy.
This year there will be performances by 59 teams—including “Yosakoi Soran”—a number exceeding that of the previous year’s festival, and 21 restaurants and stores will enliven the festival.
The 12th Pia Festa in Joto will be concurrently held, where visitors will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of disabilities, and enjoy the festival together with other visitors regardless of physical ability as neighbors. The Festa will offer hands-on activities such as wheelchair, guide dog, and Braille experiences.
There will also be other fun events, including a stamp rally!
We look forward to welcoming all of you.
