Japan’s first LCC exclusive terminal is in service!

Completed on Sunday, October 28, 2012, is the Second Terminal (T2) of Kansai International Airport (KIX) corresponding to the business model of the new Low Cost Carriers (LCC). It is a steel-framed one-story building (except for one area) with a total area of about 30,000 square meters and equipped with a hardstand for nine aircraft. There are no boarding bridges and passengers will board their planes using a ramp. A total of 17 stores such as restaurants and gift shops including 24-hour operation stores are available in the terminal.

The first concept of T2 is Security and Safety. Secure and safe operations will certainly be assured. The second focus is Functionality. The Kansai International AirportThey had in-depth discussion with air carriers from an early stage and brought various ideas into the design to equip the building with the necessary functions to serve as an LCC-exclusive terminal. The third point is Economy. The terminal was constructed to meet the requirement of LCC’s economic operations with ensured passengers' convenience as follows: It is a compact and simple one-floor building to be shared by both domestic and international flights. Any necessary movements up and down are designed to be done using slopes instead of elevators or escalators. It is decorated very plainly with no top boards on the ceiling and no ornaments on the pillars.

You can directly go to T2 by car or use the free shuttle bus from Aero plaza on the first phase airport island. The parking lot will hold 300 automobiles initially. A number of airport limousine bus lines, such as the Umeda, Itami, Uehonmachi, Kobe, Nara, Kyoto and Senboku lines have been extended to T2.
