“Osaka Hikari-Renaissance”

“Osaka Hikari-Renaissance,” a festival of lights that will celebrate its 9th anniversary this year, has come to stay as a true symbol of winter in Osaka, and was crowded with 2.86 million visitors last year. The Nakanoshima area, which will be the venue of this festival, is surrounded by rivers flowing through the center of the city, and has cultural facilities, such as Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, as well as Nakanoshima Park, which is loved and used by citizens as a place for relaxation and refreshment.

The central site, “Starlight City Square,” will feature an illuminated tree design on a wall of Osaka City Hall, and the street in front of the Central Public Hall will be turned into “France Avenue,” which will be decorated mainly with white and gold illuminations under the theme “Champagne.” Also, the Central Public Hall will be turned into a “Pop-up Illumination Book” in which visitors can experience a tour around the world beyond time and space. In the eastern site, under the title, “Water Story 2011— Bonds between People,” a fantastic glowing space will appear on the lawn.

During its opening period from Wednesday, December 14 to Sunday, December 25, “Osaka Hikari-Renaissance” will convey the energy of Osaka from Nakanoshima, a symbol of Aqua Metropolis Osaka, to people both overseas and in Japan, especially those in areas damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake. We will welcome you at each site with these illuminations.
