To show appreciation to those who supported the recovery from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake

• The 1st Kobe Marathon Theme: “Thanks and Friendship”
 On Sunday, November 20, the 1st Kobe Marathon will be held. The theme of the event is “Thanks and Friendship.” Kobe, in Hyogo Prefecture, which has received much support and encouragement as the main affected area of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake 16 years ago, will express its sincere appreciation through this event in the hope that showing the creatively recovered city and sharing the experience of, and lessons from the earthquake can inspire team spirit and a spirit of cooperation
 
  To encourage over 20,000 runners who will run through the reconstructed city of Kobe, approximately 6,000 volunteers, along with local residents, are currently preparing to welcome the runners with words of appreciation
 Also, to encourage the affected areas of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the city will support these areas by selling charity zekken (athlete number cloths) for 500 yen each.

• Hyogo Prefecture’s PR specialist is training to prepare for the race at a fever pitch!
 Hiromi Yoneda, one of Hyogo Prefecture’s PR specialists (photo), who will also participate in the race, is a complete beginner at running marathons. Preparing for the very first marathon in her life, her enthusiasm to train is intensifying day by day. The progress of her training has been broadcast in a Hyogo prefectural information program, called “HYOGO YY” (broadcast from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sundays on SUN-TV), and has appeared on her blog “HYOGO YY plus+” http://ameblo.jp/hyogo-pr-officer/ (in Japanese).
