Vietnam president visits Kansai

President Nguyen Minh Triet of Vietnam participated in the 'Japan-Vietnam Economic Forum' held at an Osaka hotel on Nov. 29 during his state visit to Japan. The event, sponsored by the Osaka Office of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Kansai Economic Federation and others, was also joined by 150 Vietnamese and 300 Japanese business persons and other people concerned.
The Vietnamese president urged Kansai businesses, including smaller firms, to increase operations and investments in his country. He expressed hope for cooperation in major projects in Vietnam, including Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and north-south high-speed railway construction.
Vietnam and the Kansai region have very deep relations. Senior Vietnamese government officials and economic ministers engage in exchange activities in Kansai almost every year. Trade has also increased year after year and now the region accounts for about a quarter of all trade between the two countries. There are 11 direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City every week from Kansai International Airport.
