Ticket bookings start for Kobe Airport

Three Japanese airlines -Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Skymark Airlines- have started taking ticket reservations for flights to and from Kobe Airport scheduled to open on February 16, 2006. The reservations are for 27 two-way flights on seven routes between February 16 and March 15, including 11 flights to/from Haneda Airport in Tokyo, four flights to/from Kagoshima Airport, four flights to/from Naha Airport in Okinawa and three flights to/from New Chitose Airport in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
The central government's Aviation Policy Council estimates that air travel demand in the Kansai region is expected to expand steadily at an annual rate of 2.2% to 2.8%, and air travelers will increase to 31.4 million in 2012. With the opening of Kobe Airport, the Kansai region will have three airports, two others being Kansai International Airport (KIX) and Osaka International Airport (also known as Itami Airport).
KIX will handle international and domestic flights, while the other two airports will handle domestic flights.
