Kansai business mission to China next spring

The ten major economic organizations in the Kansai region will send a joint mission, Kansai Business Community China Mission, to China in March 2002 to mark the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China relations. The ten organizations are Kansai Economic Federation, Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe, Kansai Association of Corporate Executives, Osaka Industrial Association, Kansai Employers' Association, Kansai Productivity Center, Japan-China Economic Relations and Trade Centre and the Kansai Headquarters of Japan-China Economic Association.
The mission, comprising approximately 60 persons, will be headed jointly by Mr. Yoshihisa Akiyama, President of Kansai Economic Federation, and Mr. Wa Tashiro, President of OCCI. It will meet with high government officials in Beijing on March 17-20 and then break up into groups representing different organizations in Japan which will visit cities in different parts of China.
The Kansai business community, which has been sending missions to China almost every five years since 1971, weighs its relationship with China in view of China's recently-acquired membership in the World Trade Organization and its grandiose plans to develop the western part of the country. The forthcoming mission will exchange views with government leaders, and engage in dialogues with China's business community for further strengthening ties between China and the Kansai region.
