ESCAP meeting on disabled persons in Shiga

At the fourth session of the Committee on Socio-economic Measures to Alleviate Poverty in Rural and Urban Areas of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) recently held in Bangkok, Thailand, it was approved to hold the high-level intergovernmental meeting to conclude the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, 1993-2002, in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, on Oct. 25-28, 2002.
At the ESCAP general meeting in April this year, the representative of the Japanese government proposed to hold the intergovernmental meeting in Shiga. At the recently held meeting of the Committee on Socio-economic Measures to Alleviate Poverty in Rural and Urban Areas, members approved the selection of Otsu City as the venue and the schedule, both of which will be formally decided at the general meeting held in May next year.
