[Columns]Akashi Kaikyo Bridge brings in a rush of all-night convenience stores in Shikoku

The largest industrial project completed in the Kansai region in 1998 is the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It is the second bridge connecting Honshu with Shikoku following the Seto-Ohashi Bridge. The third such bridge of the Onomichi-Imabari Route will be opened in the spring of 1999, marking the start of an era of three long bridges in the Inland Sea.
""Are three bridges really needed?"" ""What is the economic effect of the bridges?"" These questions naturally arise but the Kinki Regional Construction Bureau (KRCB) says Shikoku has begun undergoing a big change with the opening of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
