[Columns]More funds necessary

Asia Center 21 is planning to change its status from that of a volunteer organization to a foundation, with the aim of building a new structure specifically to house the Asian Library and Communication Center and to serve as a base for interaction with Asia.
The main problem is finding the necessary funds. With about 5,000 members today, Asia Center 21 barely has enough money coming in to pay the library's present rent. The organization opened a used bookstore in 1997 to raise more money, but above all it needs to sign up more members. ""We hope to attract many more individuals and groups with an interest in Asia and Asian culture,"" Fujita said.
