Attracting Muslim tourists to Kansai!

The cities of Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe and Sakai, major cities in Kansai, in cooperation with the Foundation for Kansai Region Promotion, together held the Seminar for Accepting Muslim Tourists on August 30, 2013. This seminar attracted approximately 150 representatives of restaurants, accommodations, tourist facilities and other facilities in the Kansai region. The purpose of the seminar was to attract Muslim tourists to Kansai.
Recently, using low-cost carriers (LCCs) provided at Kansai International Airport, tourists from Southeast Asian countries that have undergone remarkable economic growth, such as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, have increased rapidly.
Many Muslims live in Southeast Asia. The number of Muslims in Indonesia is 200 million, approximately 90% of its population, with 17 million in Malaysia, approximately 60% of its population. They eat no pork and drink no alcohol, and pray at least three times daily facing in the direction of the holy city of Mecca even while they are traveling.
After this seminar, participants are expected to create a traveling environment that is friendly for Muslims.
