Vast Umekita Garden opens on the north side of Osaka Station for a limited period

A vast garden park called Umekita Garden has opened for a limited period in the second development zone of the Umekita area, a redevelopment zone on the north side of Osaka Station. The Garden will be open until March 20, 2017.

The park is filled with flowers and trees and covers 7,500 square meters in the center of one of the busiest parts of the city. Visitors will be able to enjoy seasonal colorful flowers, as well as a variety of seasonal events.

Kazuyuki Ishihara, a world-class garden designer, was designated as the main gardener for Umekita Garden. The main garden designed by him is 30 meters wide and includes two beautiful three-meter-high waterfalls surrounded by a variety of flowers and trees. The garden embodies the hope that the city of Osaka will be blessed with greenery in the future. One of his works, Senri-Sentei—Garage Garden, a garage incorporated with a garden, was reproduced in the park. The work won this year’s gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, an annual garden show held in the UK.

Visitors to the venue will be able to enjoy a flower field called minna-no-hanabatake, where they can plant flowers themselves, and midori-no-komichi, a pathway running through plants embedded in a wall. With a food court area and event square, a variety of events await visitors, mainly on weekends.

The second development zone of the Umekita area will be completed in 2022. In April 2013, Grand Front Osaka, a multi-purpose complex, opened in the first development zone.
