Eki Marche Shin-Osaka Fully Opens – the Largest Scale Commercial Facility Inside a Station’s Ticket Gates

The shopping and restaurant complex Eki Marche Shin-Osaka has now fully opened as the largest-scale commercial facility inside a station’s ticket gates in the West Japan Railway network. With 9 new delicatessens, all 36 shops and restaurants are now open. This is the third facility following ones in Takarazuka and Osaka, where West Japan Railway Daily Service Net Company develops and operates.
With approximately 2,200 square meters of total store floor space, Eki Marche Shin-Osaka is located inside the ticket gates of the regular lines of Shin-Osaka Station. Under the theme of “Drop in and Get a Small Pleasure in 15 Minutes,” the facility is expected to attract passengers of regular lines commuting to and from work and school as well as Shinkansen users and foreign tourists, with the aim of generating annual sales of about 7 billion yen.
First, 27 cafes and shops are now open serving local specialties and prepared meals including takoyaki (fried octopus dumplings) and kushikatsu (cutlet skewers), followed by another 9 such as one providing foods from long-established brands such as hakozushi (boxed sushi) in Osaka Semba and pickles in Shitennoji, and another selling a selected 30,000 yen box lunch of Kobe Beefsteak.
Eki Marche Osaka, located on the premises of Osaka Station in Osaka’s Kita Ward, where there are fierce competitions among large scale commercial facilities, marked its third anniversary on October 31, 2015. With the theme of “Adult’s Hangout,” Eki Marche Osaka aims to provide a place where commuters and other customers can casually stop by. In the approximately 4,500 square meters of total store floor space are some 70 stores side by side including shops for takeout dishes and sweets, clothing stores and restaurants. Eki Marche Osaka enjoys growing popularity due to its convenience of having the ticket gates directly connected to the station, and that ICOCA IC cards can be used at all shops and restaurants in the facility.
