Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum ranked 2nd in travel review website ranking

TripAdvisor (U.S.), the world’s largest travel review website, announced its ranking of sightseeing spots, based on online review evaluations contributed by travelers around the world. The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum was selected as the number two spot in Japan in 2014 in the ranking of “Top 10 Museums — Japan,” under the “Attractions” category.
This website announces the rankings of hotels, restaurants, and sightseeing spots from contributed information based on the actual experiences of travelers around the world. The rankings this time was selected based on the original counting of review evaluations and the number of contributions for art and other-types of museums for which reviews were contributed during 2013. This was this category’s first ranking announcement in Japan. The first place and third place were for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, respectively. In Asia, six Japanese facilities ranked among the top 25 sights, including the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in third place and the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in 12th place.
With the discovery of many dinosaur fossils, Fukui Prefecture accounts for most of the fossils discovered in Japan. The museum (in Katsuyama City), the world's largest-class exhibition and research facility dedicated to dinosaurs with as many as 42 exhibits including replicas and seven complete skeletons, also boasts Japan’s largest number of exhibits related to dinosaurs. After its opening in 2000, the museum has become one of the most representative spots of the prefecture with more than 700,000 visitors annually.
