The “Golden Tea Room” appears in Kansai International Airport―Welcoming foreign tourists

The Siege of Osaka 400th Anniversary Project Executive Committee (made up of such bodies as Osaka Prefectural and Municipal governments) is now specially displaying a prefabricated model of the “Golden Tea Room,” which is said to have been built on the order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, on the International Arrivals Floor of Kansai International Airport. The model is being displayed until the end of March 2015 to welcome foreign tourists. (Photo)
The years 2014 and 2015 mark the 400th anniversary of the Siege of Osaka, a series of battles fought between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Toyotomi Clan. Aiming to convey the attractiveness of Osaka Castle, a tourist symbol of Osaka, and to advertise the Siege of Osaka 400-Year Grand Festival, an event focusing on Osaka Castle and opened on October 1, the committee set up the model of the Tea Room in Kansai International Airport, which serves as a gateway to the skies, handling more than 18 million users per year (figure for the previous year).
This model of the Tea Room, approximately 2.5 m high, 2.5 m deep and 2.7 m wide, was reproduced based on a full-scale model, which is now placed in the Osaka Castle Tower. The model set up in the airport can be dismantled and reassembled, and is now scheduled to be displayed in major cities overseas and at events to be held in various places in Japan in the future.
The person in charge of the display commented, “We hope that foreign visitors will enjoy the model, and we wish to fully promote the attractiveness of Osaka to them.”
