Opulent stage performed by all women cast
Takarazuka Revue Company is rare in the world in that it stages songs, dance and plays from classical to contemporary performed by all-women casts. The Theater for Takarazuka was created in 1924. It houses 2,550 seats, which have been set to allow every seat a good view of the stage. Showing Japan's classical performing art "Kabuki"
Japan's first western-style theatre built in 1923. In 1997, it was reborn as a theatre with the latest stage mechanism. It shows various theatrical arts including Kabuki, which originated in Kansai (Kabuki is also shown in other theatres. Check with a tourist information center or travel agent.)

A breathtaking dolls' play
The theater is a home for Kamigata performing arts including Bunraku, a Japanese puppet show which is a world's intangible cultural heritage registered by UNESCO, classical Japanese dance, music and other dramatic performances. Nearby is the Kuromon Market where you can get various ingredients from around the country.

Enjoy Nogaku, the intangible cultural asset
Nogaku, one of Japan's 3 greatest classical performing arts, registered by UNESCO as the first intangible cultural asset, originated in Kansai. The Kyoto Kanze Kaikan is a theatre dedicated to Noh, and performances are shown on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. In Kansai, there are many more Noh theatres such as Osaka's Ohtsuki Nogakudo and Kyoto's Kongo Nogakudo. (Check with the theatre or major travel agents for performance schedules.)
