8. National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties

Kansai, by comparison to the rest of the country, has overwhelmingly large number of buildings and objects of arts and crafts designated as National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties. Indeed, nearly 60% of all the National Treasures and about half the Important Cultural Properties of Japan are found in the Kansai area. Kansai's superiority in this regard is not only quantitative but qualitative as well, as it is home to some historic buildings of internationally recognized value.
