Shrine. |
Situated between the Ibi River, one of the three rivers of Kiso, and the Inabe
River, the city of Kuwana flourished as a post town on the Tokaido highway and
has prospered as a port town since the old days. With many waterways for vessels
throughout the city, it is also known as a town of riverside districts (suigo).
Numerous attractive waterside spots can be found in the city, including Shichiri-no-watashi,
which features a tall shrine gate at the river's mouth marking the entrance of
the route to Ise Shrine; Rokka-en, famous for its go-round-style landscaped garden
with ponds, streams and excellent Japanese- and western-style buildings; and Kyuka
Park, where cherry trees and azaleas surround its pond. The tasteful walking path
along the water course brings to mind days long gone.
