The Tango province has long flourished as a center for producing Tango chirimen (silk crepe) and developed as the hub of distribution of goods to link Kyoto and the Tango province. The Chirimen Kaido is a main road lined with chirimen shops, a textile factory, bank, post office, Western-style hospital, town hall and other buildings constructed during the period from Meiji to early Showa periods, conveying the atmosphere of the old days. The Kaya Home-Town festival is held every autumn at the Chirimen Kaido and other areas of the province.
